Mr.
Young is a Managing Director with Hemisphere Development and
is responsible for all site development and construction activities.
Mr. Young graduated from The Ohio State University, Columbus,
Ohio, in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration,
majoring in real estate.
Mr. Young has over thirty years experience and proven results
in all facets of commercial, industrial and retail construction,
real estate development, real estate financing and management.
His reputation as an exceptional construction and real estate executive
has been built on integrity, creativity, and an extraordinary work
ethic, supported by unique leadership qualities, communication
skills, and entrepreneurial spirit, with an uncompromising commitment
to quality and customer satisfaction.
Mr. Young’s career history has included extensive experience
in all aspects of real estate development, construction, brokerage
and investment. As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Darrell
A. Young Corporation, founded in late 1990, he provided full service
construction and real estate services for commercial, industrial,
residential, and retail customers. Projects completed include construction
of several Revco and Rite Aid Drug Stores, Office Max, Staples,
HomePlace, Hollywood Video, Kmart, Aldi’s, Wholesale Distribution
Facilities, Borders Books, United States Postal Facility, Surgical
Clinics, Wendy’s Restaurants, Corporate Offices, Legal Offices,
etc. Construction services provided by competitive bid, design
build, negotiated contract, fixed fee (open book) basis as required.
Mr. Young directed all operations of this $30 million business
with responsibility for profitability, sales, strategic planning
and implementation of management policies.
Mr. Young also served as President of Figgie Properties Inc.,
Wickliffe, Ohio, a Division of Figgie International Inc., focusing
on commercial, industrial, retail and residential real estate development
and land planning corporate real estate for over twenty- five (25)
operating units. He reported directly to the Chairman/CEO. In this
capacity, Mr. Young directed all areas of division management including
preparation of five (5) year financial goals, management and supervision
of staff in four states (including legal and accounting professionals),
financial analysis, zoning and related presentations, architectural
and land planning, development and construction, establishment
of design criteria and related enhancements, sales, marketing and
management of four (4) mixed use real estate developments comprised
of raw land, office parks, industrial parks, eighteen hole public
golf course, self serve storage units, commercial shopping centers
and residential communities, totaling over 3,000 acres, representing
over $400 million in asset value.
Mr. Young’s responsibilities
also entailed negotiating and administering all real estate transactions
for all operating units,
(including retail, industrial and commercial leasing), as well
as corporate acquisitions and dispositions, domestically and overseas.
Mr. Young interacted with senior management to outline and recommend
short and long term strategies with regard to all owned and leased
facilities (in excess of five million square feet), including site
selection, facility expansions and closings, sale and lease-back
alternatives, financing techniques, facilities management and maintenance,
common area cost control, security, environmental analysis and
compliance and construction management.
Mr. Young also was the President and CEO of Howard Corporation,
a firm specializing in commercial, industrial, and retail general
contractor and construction management. In this capacity, Mr. Young
directed all operations, with responsibility for profitability,
sales, strategic planning and implementation, budgeting, contract
negotiations, bidding strategy, documentation of construction techniques
and implementation of design build construction process for office
buildings, medical facilities, shopping centers, industrial buildings,
theaters, fast food restaurants, technical medical facilities,
nursing homes, retail outlets, and build to suit transactions.
Mr. Young has actively
been involved in a variety of community and non-profit boards
including the following: Vice Chair of the
Playhouse Square Foundation; Chair of the Real Estate Committee;
Board Chair of Montefiore Housing Corporation; Trustee of the Jewish
Community Federation, Executive Committee; Chair of the Facilities
Committee, Jewish Community Center of Cleveland; Executive Committee
of the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland; Chair of the Budget
Committee, Jewish Community Federation; Former Board Chair of the
Montefiore Foundation; Former Vice-Chair of the Cuyahoga Community
College Foundation; Former Trustee of the Center for Dialysis Care;
Former Board Chair of Montefiore (240 Bed Nursing Home, Hospice,
Home Care – 501C3 institution); Former Trustee of Mt. Sinai
Medical Center; Former Member of the Air Service Development Committee,
Greater Cleveland Growth Association; Former Member of Build Up
Greater Cleveland Policy Committee, Greater Cleveland Growth Association;
Former Trustee of the Beachwood, Ohio Chamber of Commerce; and
Look Up To Cleveland Program (High School Civic Vision Program),
Greater Cleveland Growth Association.
